Speaker Bio:
David Yoakley Mitchell graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA-96) and studied photography and anthropology. He is the Executive Director of the Atlanta Preservation Center and is fortunate to work with the University of Georgia Special Collections Libraries and Georgia State University’s Special Collections Library to expand its collections.
David's interest in preservation extends beyond just physical structures, he also sees value in the preservation of Atlanta's natural environment. He has a particular focus on regional and cultural identity. In his role as Executive Director, he aims to help raise awareness of the culture and identities tied to historical structures and places. David believes that preservation can help connect people and sees the opportunity for these historical structures and places to not just be relics of the past, but to be a part of a living history by having a purpose and being adapted to new use.
