MLK Day of Service with Trees Atlanta

  • 17 Jan 2026
  • 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Glen Emerald park, 1479 Bouldercrest Rd, Atlanta, GA 30316

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, join fellow ASLA Georgia members for a hands-on tree planting at Glen Emerald Park. This volunteer opportunity reflects Dr. King’s call to action by turning service into a lasting investment in our shared public realm.

Together, we’ll help strengthen Atlanta’s urban forest—planting trees that will provide cleaner air, cooling shade, improved habitat, and long-term environmental resilience for the surrounding community. This is a chance to put our skills and values as landscape architects into action through direct stewardship of a public landscape.

Volunteer tasks include digging planting holes with shovels and mattocks, loosening root balls, planting, mulching, watering, and site cleanup. This is active, outdoor work that requires bending, lifting, kneeling, and getting your hands dirty. Tree planting can be physically demanding—come prepared to break a sweat and work alongside your ASLA Georgia peers in service of community and place.
