Attendees will have an opportunity to see the new College Street Pedestrian plaza under construction. This is a former vehicular roadway that has been closed and converted to pedestrian only. It began as a test – where the city added a few random tables and blocked the street off. It was such a success, they ultimately funded this project which aims to change out paving, add site furniture and trees to create a unique gathering space at Athens major connection point to the UGA north campus (across from the Arch).
Attendees will hear from the designers, SPG, on various background, design considerations and lessons learned. The contractor, Sheridan, will also be present and will share their perspective on things designers can do to improve constructability of proposed designs and construction documents.
After the site tour, attendees can join us for continued networking at Creature Comforts.
This is an active construction site. All participants shall wear closed toe shoes. No flip flops or sandals will be permitted. Please bring your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (hard hat, safety vest) if you have it. If you do not have any, we will have spare PPE to share.
